GSI hosted over 50 people at our Grain Bin Safety Week Res-Q-Tube training session on February 26, in Assumption, IL. Included in that group were area fire fighters, GSI Dealers, GSI employees, grain elevator operators, representatives from Nationwide Insurance and local Ag media. Attendees were given hands on training from the Safety and Technical Rescue Association (SATRA) on how to properly rescue someone engulfed in grain.
Historically 70% of grain entrapments happened on-farm. However, in 2011 only 26% of the total number of entrapments took place on farm and 74% took place in commercial grain facilities. This shift in accidents makes it extremely important for more than just fire and rescue teams to be trained. Several of the grain elevator operators in attendance said they wanted to take this training because they know that it could potentially safe the life of a coworker someday.
GSI is proud to represent the grain industry as a sponsor of Grain Bin Safety Week and serve our local community. Through this initiative GSI was able to spread brand awareness nationally through the coverage of this event by over eight ag publications.
